Big Bend Area
The Big Bend area is named for the vast curve of the Rio Grande southwest Texas. It is a beautiful natural region, complex and filled with fascinating history. 

There are over one million acres of public land including Big Bend National Park and Big Bend Ranch State Park both offer abundant sightseeing opportunities, along with thousands of hiking trails and camping sites.  Big Bend is filled with endless possibilities for adventure and discovery.

The Del Norte Mountains extend for twenty-six miles east of Alpine in northwestern Brewster County.  These mountains form the northern part of a chain of mountains that across central Brewster County. 

The Davis Mountains, the most extensive mountain range in Texas, were formed by volcanic activity during the Tertiary geologic period, which began around 65 million years ago. These mountains were named after Jefferson Davis, U.S. Secretary of War and later President of the Confederacy.

Fort Davis is set in the rugged beauty of the Davis Mountains of west Texas, Fort Davis is one of America's best surviving examples of an Indian Wars' frontier military post in the Southwest.  There are twenty-four roofed buildings and over 100 ruins and foundations of the Fort Davis National Historic Site.

Sul Ross State University
Alpine is home of Sul Ross State University.  Named for former Texas governor and Civil War Confederate general Lawrence Sullivan Ross, it was founded in 1917 as Sul Ross Normal College.

The Marfa Chamber of Commerce supports local business through community engagement. We help to annually host the Marfa Lights Festival.
